Sizzling Summer Pad – Courtesy of the Great Outdoors

When the seasons change, you’d probably like the feel of your home to reflect your change in lifestyle. Because the weather permits you to enjoy nature but you can’t always be outside to partake, you can always bring the beautiful summer sunshine indoors by following environmental cues on summer home décor.

1. Fresh flowers can liven up any dreary living space, and you don’t have to spend a fortune to get them. Just look in your own backyard or pay attention to the wild foliage on your drive home from work. Just make sure your roadside wildflowers aren’t sprayed with herbicides. One telltale sign your natural arrangement might be poisoned can be determined if you notice patches of browned, dead grass underneath guardrails. If you see it, stay away from the surrounding flowers.

2. Another option is using tall field grass. Make sure to compost it in a small pot or large glass candle holder and you’ve got one chic, simple solution to table decoration.

3. Take a sentimental seaside memento next time you head to the beach. Even if you don’t live near the ocean, you’re bound to make a visit at least once in the summertime. Collect the gorgeous bounty of seashells you find along the shore for some funky and relaxing decorating ideas. Be sure to boil your shells when you get home to kill germs or bacteria that might remain – then, just use your imagination. You could heap them in a large bowl for a centerpiece or nightstand accent. You could arrange them on a shelf, stud the top of a chest or line a lampshade. Also, remember to bring home some beach sand to create your very own Zen coffee table by disbursing it under a glass top.

4. Nothing completes a fabulous kitchen like a big bowl of fruit! Take advantage of the fresh summer goods by filling a large wooden bowl with lemons, limes, oranges and peaches. Just be sure to eat and replace them before they spoil.

5. Take notice the next time a summer shower blows a few leaves out of the trees in your neighborhood. Leaves can make lovely framed art and are the perfect accent to any bookcase.

6. Water is the most soothing object we can place in our homes. Find a large glass bowl and fill it with water. You can place a single flower bud in the bowl or try multiple floating candles. Whatever you choose, your new water bowl placed on a credenza will be a welcoming and soothing sight when you enter your foyer on a hot summer day.

Summer is a time for simplicity, so let your light-hearted mood reflect your new chilled out seasonal digs. Have fun and surround yourself with the finest summer splendor nature has to offer.
