Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

Founded in 1773, the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is one of five member institutions in the Johns Hopkins Health System. The Medical Center offers a range of services for the community, including a trauma center and neonatal intensive care unit that are part of the statewide system, a regional burn center and a nationally renowned geriatrics center.

Located in southeast Baltimore, most of Bayview’s physicians are full-time faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Bayview is a community teaching hospital and is proud of its learning opportunities, including the residency program in internal medicine. The residency program has the unique combination of a dedicated faculty, ambulatory and inpatient training, exposure to nationally recognized generalists and subspecialists, and a supportive environment that provides house staff the opportunity to become leaders in primary care general internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and the medical subspecialties. Students from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing also come to the Medical Center for hospital-based instruction in acute and long-term care.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center has a long and distinguished history of service and medical excellence. It is one of the oldest, continuous health care systems on the East Coast. From its inception as an alms house, it evolved as an asylum and, eventually, a municipal hospital. In 1984, the city of Baltimore transferred ownership of the hospital to The Johns Hopkins Hospital and University. Now, the 130-acre campus provides renovated, state-of-the-art facilities and continues to offer quality service to the community.
