Maryland General Hospital 827 Linden Ave.Baltimore, Maryland 21201 410-225-8000
Maryland General Hospital is a 245–bed community teaching institution that serves as the cornerstone of Maryland General Health Systems, a comprehensive healthcare network covering the continuum of care for more than 110,000 patients annually. Maryland General was founded by a group of local physicians as a university-affiliated teaching hospital in 1881. In 1911, the Baltimore Medical College, as MGH was then known, merged with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and began its long tradition of medical training and patient care that continues today. Maryland General merged again in 1965 with the Baltimore Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital to become one of the premier teaching hospitals for medical students training in those specialties. In January 1999, Maryland General Hospital affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical System to form one of the largest health systems in the Baltimore metropolitan area. This affiliation brought together the world-class research, specialized medical care and physician education of the University of Maryland Medical System with the excellent community-based physicians and services of Maryland General Health Systems. |
