Mercy Medical Center 301 Saint Paul PlaceBaltimore, Maryland 21202 410-332-9000 On a chilly November 11, 1874, six Sisters of Mercy arrived in Baltimore to take charge of a dispensary called The Baltimore City Hospital. Located in a former schoolhouse at the corner of Saratoga and Calvert Streets, it was a small, dingy building whose meager appearance belied its enormous promise. One hundred and twenty-five years later, that promise has been fulfilled thanks to the Sisters of Mercy and the many medical and lay staff who provide care to thousands of Baltimoreans. The Sisters of Mercy have always been connected to the larger community, providing assistance to the poor and under served of Baltimore. Mercy has a strong relationship with a network of community health centers, each dedicated to bringing the Sisters of Mercy healing tradition of top quality care to you. Mercy offers many community benefits, through their Social Work department and special offerings such as their Parish Nurse Program. They provide people with access to healthcare services and education, permanent housing, donations, Mercy Family Care, and free, anonymous HIV testing. Today, Mercy Medical Center is a 285-bed, full-service university-affiliated medical facility, delivering a full range of healthcare services including internal medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, urology, cardiology, gastroenterology, oncology, women's services, cosmetic surgery, ophthalmology, hospice, rehabilitative care, and emergency medicine. Celebrating 125 years of service to the city of Baltimore, Mercy's Mission remains the same as it did in the beginning: "To heal the sick, no matter their economic or social condition." |
