The interactive exhibitions you see at many modern museums have their roots at the Children's Museum of Boston, which pioneered the much-imitated concept. In fact, a Child magazine survey ranked the Children's Museum the nation's third best out of more than 200 children's museums.
This facility's exhibits feature interaction that promotes early childhood development. With the themes of arts, culture, science, and technology, the exhibits encourage imagination, self-discovery, and new understandings for all children, even those as young as toddlers.
The Children's Museum's opportunities for youngsters include indoor rock-climbing; playing with boats in an 800-gallon tank; weaving patterns on large looms; tackling a climbing maze; tunneling in a kid-sized construction zone; blowing giant bubbles; solving puzzles; and stepping into Latin American, Native American, and Japanese cultures. Kids also can read and write about their favorite characters from the PBS Arthur series, with the chance to role-play in a live Arthur-based performance.
Location
The museum is located at 300 Congress Street in Boston. The parking garage is two blocks down on Farnsworth Street and costs, with museum validation, $8 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. If the garage is closed or full, you may find nearby street parking, but because of limited availability you might opt for public transportationthe "T" train, bus, or water shuttle.
