The Sports Museum

Considered one of America's best sports towns, Boston appropriately has an educational tribute worth cheering about. Opened in 1987, the Sports Museum celebrates athletes at the amateur, collegiate, professional, and Olympian levels.

Its uniforms, trophies, equipment, artifacts, multi-media displays, and memorabilia honor baseball, basketball, football, hockey, boxing, marathon running, soccer, and rugby. Life-size wooden sculptures by artist Armand LaMontagne replicate five of New England's most prominent athletes: Harry Agganis, Ted Williams, Larry Bird, Bobby Orr, and Carl Yastrzemski. Plus, the museum's archives include over 1,000 hours of rare sports film and video footage.

Visitors can sit in the original penalty box from the Boston Garden or play an interactive sports trivia game. The "Catching Clemens" game gives you the adrenaline-pumping experience of putting your face in a cage and your hand in a mitt, only to have a Clemens' fastball streak toward you at over 100 mph.
