Baseball has been very, very good to the Fenway. And that's precisely why motorists should coordinate their driving schedules with the Red Sox's schedule, lest they get caught in fan traffic.

The home of Fenwark Park and the Boston Red Sox offers much more than baseball. Several of Boston's cultural giants have settled there—the Museum of the Fine Arts, Symphony Hall (where the Boston Pops and Boston Symphony Orchestra play), and the New England Conservatory of Music, for starters. The academic presence is just as solid, thanks to Northeastern University, Wheelock College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and other schools.

Recreationalists flock to the social atmosphere of Kenmore Square, dance clubs on Lansdowne Street, strollable community gardens, and various bar and restaurant hangouts. An area known as Longwood Medical Center includes such healthcare institutions as the Beth Israel and the Brigham & Women's hospitals. Fenway's still-affordable rentals are popular with hospital workers and students, while its condos and brownstones appeal to the significant population of professionals.
