Man and nature coexist harmoniously in this longtime manufacturing community. Growing with its paper and cotton industries in the early 1700s, Hyde Park maintains both its strong industrial base and its green space.

The 450-acre Stonybrook Reservation features bicycling and jogging paths, cross-country skiing, and plenty of parking. Other recreational amenities include the George Wright Municipal Golf Course, public tennis courts, playgrounds, ponds, and a concert shell. Free parking and a variety of shops abound, and a free shuttle bus services senior citizens.

Moderately priced single- and multi-family homes in the Fairmont, Readville, and Stonybrook areas often feature neat yards along tree-lined streets. Hyde Park's urban/surburban feel has convinced a high proportion of elected officials to reside there, including Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino. Situated in the southeastern corner of Boston, Hyde Park lies 15 minutes away by rail or car to downtown Boston.
