The mission of the Duke University Primate Center is to "promote research and understanding of prosimians and their natural habitat." Prosimians are the primates that evolved before monkeys and apes.
Over 400 animals live at the Primate Center, the majority of which are lemurs. All animals are housed in their natural habitat. Although the Primate Center is a research facility, a guided tour of the grounds and caged facility is available by prior arrangement. Length of the tour is about one hour.
