Duke Homestead State Historic Site and Tobacco Museum

History comes alive at the Duke Homestead, the site of Washington Duke's 19th-century tobacco farm. Included at the Duke Homestead are the Dukes' original home and outbuildingsa curing barn, smokehouse, packhouse, and factory.
The Tobacco Museum, located in the Visitor Center, features a number of exhibits that trace the history of tobacco, as well as a film about the Duke family and their place in tobacco history. On the grounds of the Homestead you can observe activities, demonstrated by costumed actors, that show the early farming techniques and manufacturing processes for tobacco.

Hours of operation
The Duke Homestead is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. It's closed Sunday and Monday.

There is no charge for admission to the Duke Homestead, but donations are welcomed.

Disabled access
The Tobacco Museum at the Visitor Center provides disabled access. The
historic buildings have steps that are disabled accessible with assistance,
although the one-quarter-mile path to the historic buildings may be
difficult for
some disabled visitors to navigate.

Picnic tables are available on the grounds.
Guided tours are scheduled at 15-minute intervals, beginning on the hour and continuing throughout the day. Groups are requested to make reservations in advance.
