Forest Hills This area, located at the southern end of Downtown, can be summed up in four words: Old money, old homes. A 1920s neighborhood, Forest Hills is a vision of elegant Colonial Tudor and English cottage-style houses standing along gracefully winding, tree-lined streets. Two of Durham's first housesthe Caroll House and the Wells House, built in the 19th centurystill remain. An active neighborhood association works diligently to ensure that Forest Hills remains a fashionable and elegant residential area. The well-maintained Forest Hills Park features recreation centers, soccer fields, picnic facilities, restrooms, playgrounds, pools, and tennis courts. There also is a community garden club, book club, and croquet club. Elegance and convenience to downtown Durham define the area.
