Hope Valley

Photo Credit: Paul Liggett and Durham CVB
Located in the southwest part of the city, Hope Valley was Durham's first full-fledged country club suburb. The 1920s upper-class neighborhood is situated around an 18-hole golf course, and many large Tudor Revival and English cottage-style homes can be spotted atop landscaped yards. Other housing in the area includes single-family homes, apartments, garden homes, and townhouses.

The land was originally developed to attract successful young professionals who were drawn to Durham for its thriving tobacco, textile, and healthcare industries. Traces of the farms that once occupied the area still exist. Now a family-oriented area, most of Hope Valley is zoned to keep the traffic slow (25 mph), and you will see many children, joggers, and walkers enjoying the bucolic surroundings.

Home to sunshine, scenic beauty and historical charm!
Naturally pleasant, technically prime.
Impressive past. Fascinating future.
