Los Angeles County Museum of Art

Although Los Angeles is well known for being the television and film capital of the world, it's also home to one of this country’s finest-and largest-art museums. In fact, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) collections are so extensive they’re displayed in five separate buildings.

The LACMA Almanson Building is home to the museum's permanent collections, including works by masters such as Rembrandt, Degas, Gaugin, Monet, Cezanne, Kandinsky, and Mondrian. American and international paintings, drawings, photography, bronze figures, ancient glass, pottery, and jewelry form the 12 impressive permanent collections.

Contemporary art can be found in the Anderson Building, and special exhibitions on loan to the museum can be found in the Hammer Building. Recent special exhibitions include "Ansel Adams at 100," "Winslow Homer and the Critics: Forging a National Art in the 1870s," and "French Masterworks" from Moscow’s Pushkin Museum. The newest building, LACMA West, houses the Boone Children’s Gallery, designed specifically to capture the artistic imaginations of kids.

LACMA's additional offerings include a sculpture park and an outdoor café. The museum also offers many community programs, including hands-on workshops, interactive storytelling, films, lectures, and musical performances.
