Hollywood Wax Museum

Although it's not uncommon to see celebrities in Los Angeles, they usually don't like you to stare at them. On the contrary, the famous people in the Hollywood Wax Museum are there for just that purpose. By using ancient wax-molding techniques that create lifelike three-dimensional figures, the museum's collection offers up-close looks at the people with whom we're all fascinated. There are six categories of wax figures in the museum: movie stars, television stars, recording stars, famous athletes, historical and religious figures, and the inhabitants of the "Chamber of Horrors."

The movie star section contains such classic performers as Judy Garland and W.C. Fields, alongside modern entertainers Will Smith and Nicole Kidman. The television collection features stars from M*A*S*H, Star Trek, Seinfeld, and many others. And not to be left out of this comprehensive collection of entertainers, the recording industry is represented by music greats Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, and Barbara Streisand.

Athletes from the past and present are displayed in the Sports Hall of Fame. Fans of every major sport can see their favorites, from Fernando Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Dodgers to golf guru Tiger Woods. And the collection of religious and historical figures spans the centuries, with displays ranging from Jesus and his disciples, to John F. Kennedy.

The most interesting displays arguably are contained in the Chamber of Horrors. Here, famous horror and sci-fi movies are depicted by featuring the actors and actresses who starred in them. You’ll see classic performers, such as Dracula’s Bela Lugosi, along with more modern stars, such as The Silence of the Lambs' Anthony Hopkins.
