The Hollywood Bowl

What do the Beatles, Leopold Stokowski, and Barbra Streisand have in common? They've all performed at the Hollywood Bowl, one of the largest amphitheaters in the world. With a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the world-renowned landmark is one of the most spectacular venues in which to experience live entertainment. The summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl offers concerts in jazz, opera, and classical and world music, from June through September.

But there is much more to "the Bowl" (as it's called by locals) than just music. A free museum on the Hollywood Bowl grounds is open every night before concerts and year-round during the day. There also are free special events every Tuesday at 7 p.m., ranging from book signings, to gourmet cooking demonstrations, to wine and cheese tasting. As an extension of these offerings, the springtime "Taste of the Bowl" event presents a day filled with free live music and entertainment, tours, children's activities, and more.

The Hollywood Bowl is known as a great place for a romantic pre-concert meals. Simple fare is available from the refreshment stands, or you can order take-out continental cuisine from Staccato, which is located between the first and second promenades. If you'd like a sit-down meal, the Rooftop Grill offers casual outdoor elegance and gourmet meals. Lucky pool-box holders can be served right at their seats by the Patina at the Pool waitstaff. But for those who want to have the true Hollywood Bowl experience, there are a variety of picnic options. The Marketplace by Patina offers the ingredients for gourmet picnic suppers, and the Gourmet Picnic Dinners À La Carte and Gourmet Picnic Box services offer pre-made picnics available to order in advance.
