From its humble beginnings with four beds in 1901, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles has grown into an internationally renowned hospital. It provides providing advanced care in 33 pediatric sub-specialties and is recognized for its education, outreach, and breakthrough research on child development and the treatment and prevent of pediatric diseases.

Each year, the 314-bed nonprofit hospital receives more than 300,000 visits from patients ranging in age from newborn to 18 years. It houses 29 outpatient clinics, physical, occupational, and hearing/speech programs, as well as various intensive care units.

In 2001, U.S. News & World Report ranked CHLA as No. 1 among top pediatric facilities on the West Coast and No. 6 among such facilities nationally. The hospital's medical staff comprises 350 respected community physicians and more than 250 hospital-based doctors.
