Lac+Usc Medical Center 1200 North State St. The nation's largest academic institution, Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, was founded in 1878. Today, it is also Los Angeles County's largest single provider of healthcare and one of America's largest acute-care hospitals. Licensed for 1,395 beds and budgeted to staff 745 beds, LAC+USC Medical Center provides the full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services. It cares for half of Southern California's AIDS patients and sickle-cell-anemia patients. Plus, it operates a hyperbaric chamber on Catalina Island.
