With 1,567 licensed beds, Jackson Memorial Hospital serves as Miami–Dade County’s only full-service provider for the indigent and medically indigent. The hospital, which opened in 1918, also is the county’s only public hospital and the state’s largest teaching hospital—it serves as the main teaching institution for the University of Miami School of Medicine. It has an adult and pediatric Level 1 trauma center, and provides diverse patient services, educational programs, and health-related community services.
