Between its Brooklyn (Kings Highway) and Manhattan (Singer and Petrie) divisions, Beth Israel Medical Center offers 1,368 beds and employs more than 2,000 physicians. This full-service, tertiary teaching hospital was founded on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1889. BIMC since has grown into the largest provider of inpatient care in New York State. The Singer Division contains the well-known Hyman Newman Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

BIMC is nationally recognized in several areas, including stroke care, orthopedic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and some obstetrics. Professionals involved in the medical center’s healthcare include private and attending physicians, practical nurses, patient-care associates, rehabilitation specialists, social workers, and nutritionists.

Serving Brooklyn and Manhattan, BIMC’s fourth branch, Phillips Ambulatory Care Center, offers more than 50 on-site diagnostic services, a cancer center, an ambulatory surgery unit, a spine institute, and a patient wellness library.
