The renowned Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center merged with Weill Cornell Medical Center in 1998 to form New York Presbyterian Hospital. The combined institution offers 2,369 beds and has grown to be one of the East Coast’s premier teaching hospitals.

Innovations at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center have included the first successful heart transplant in a child, research permitting the first blood test for prostate cancer, and the first medical use of a laser beam.
