Mount Sinai Hospital One Gustave L. Levy Place The Mount Sinai Medical Center consists of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the 1,171-bed Mount Sinai Hospital. The tertiary-care hospital, founded in 1852 as the Jews’ Hospital in New York, is one of the country’s oldest and largest voluntary teaching hospitals. With a medical staff of nearly 1,800, Mount Sinai Hospital is particularly prominent in the areas of gastroenterology and cardiology. In 1964 the hospital’s research on hazardous materials demonstrated the link between asbestos exposure and lung cancer.
