Capone's Dinner & Show In 1931, Chicago was better known for its mobster element (imagine a city run by Tony Soprano) than its blustery winds. When Prohibition made the sale of alcohol illegal, the town saw the rise of mob-managed speakeasies, which secretly served liquor. If Chicago's most notorious gangster, Al Capone, had run such an establishment in Central Florida-and done so with a sense of humor-it might have resembled Capone's Dinner & Show. Launched in 1992, the production-plus-pasta features a Broadway-style show with singing, dancing, comedy, action, and romance. After whispering the password, guests are escorted from a faux ice-cream parlor into a banquet hall for the show, food, and available alcohol (beer, sangria, and rum runner). But don't be surprised if undercover "police" conduct a raid and a shoot-out ensues. The cabaret's story line involves characters like Fingers Salvatorio, Harry the Lip, a scrupulous detective, a cigarette girl, and a curvaceous but tame burlesque star. Giving Capone's Dinner & Show an air of authenticity are such details as characters in zoot suits, a big-band orchestra, antique street lighting, and period automobile replicas. The all-you-can-eat buffet includes lasagna, baked ziti, spaghetti, sausage with pepper and onions, chicken, ham, garlic bread, various vegetables, and unlimited beverages.
