Central Florida Zoological Park

Central Florida Zoological Park
With a small menagerie of donated animals, firefighters established the Sanford Zoo in 1923. The collection, now called the Central Florida Zoo, has grown to 300 animals and 135 species. And it offers an educational and entertaining experience not possible at area theme parks.

Shaded boardwalks and winding paths put visitors in the mood for a tropical experience, and the zoo delivers with reptiles, primates, felines, colorful birds, and hoofed mammals in naturalistic habitats. Highlights range from the fluttering beauties of the Butterfly Sensory Garden, to the slimy and scaly residents of the Herpetarium, to such endangered species as the clouded leopard, cotton-top tamarin, and Aruba Island rattlesnake.

On weekends when the weather permits, demonstrations and public feedings involve the zoo's elephants, snapping turtles, hippos, felines, and primates. Central Florida Zoo amenities include picnic areas, snack bars, and a gift store.
