Fantasy of Flight
An aviation enthusiast opened Fantasy of Flight in 1995 to share his passion with the public. His restored specimens include a Navy Panther Jet, a German JU-52, a British Spitfire, a B-24 Liberator, and a Short Sunderland Flying Boat. Part hangar and part museum, Fantasy of Flight houses more than 30 vintage aircraft. It reveals the extensive restoration required, and lets visitors "fly" a fighter in a simulated South Pacific bombing mission. An exhibit commemorating the 75th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis flight includes a replica of the beloved plane. The Back Lot Tour takes visitors behind the scenes of what it takes to run the attraction. And each day, a pilot gives the history of one of the attraction's vintage aircraft; then demonstrates its flight-worthiness in the skies overhead. For extra fees, visitors can take flight in a hot-air balloon (reservations are required 48 hours in advance) or in a restored, open-cockpit New Standard D-25 from 1929. If you're hungry, grab a bite in the art-deco Compass Rose Diner, and if you want to shop, you can browse unique aviation memorabilia in the gift shop. Location Hours of operation Admission
