The Orlando Philharmonic

Orlando Philharmonic
Begun as a chamber music group in 1991, Central Florida's resident orchestra, the Orlando Philharmonic, appears in more than 95 performances each year. The organization employs the abilities of more than 80 conservatory-trained musicians, and has expanded its offerings from chamber music to orchestral music. It also accompanies performances of the Orlando Ballet and the Orlando Opera.

But the orchestra itself does just fine. Its "Phil at Carr" concert series-which combines classical and pop music and includes internationally renowned guest soloists-is as comfortable with the Beatles or "America the Beautiful" as it is with Beethoven or Swan Lake. Other performances include the Darden Family Series (three fun family concerts), and the three chamber-music concerts of both the Serenade Series and the Focus Series.

The orchestra has strong ties to youth, performing more than 20 Young People's Concerts annually for over 40,000 local students. The orchestra also trains young musicians through the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, which offers three concerts each year.
