Pleasure Island

Pleasure Island
In Pinocchio, Pleasure Island was the place where runaway boys could play all day, but they later discovered they'd been changed into donkeys. Disney's Pleasure Island is true to its name-without the unpleasant after-effects to guests. Clubs, shops, and restaurants are grouped together for mega-appeal. And since the attraction's 1989 debut, every night is "New Year's Eve," with fireworks and celebration.

Eight distinct nightclubs are the anchors of the six-acre "island." Voted the No. 1 dance club in the Southeast, the three-level Mannequins Dance Palace moves guests with dance-music mixes, high-tech lighting, and a revolving dance floor. At Motion, the DJ spins Top 40, hip-hop, and alternative tunes, many of which appear in music-video form on a giant screen. The hip-hop flavor continues at BET SoundStage Club, which also plays danceable R&B and serves finger food. The '70s are in fashion at the retro 8TRAX, complete with boogie dance hits, disco ball, 50 TV monitors, and fluorescent décor. Live bands and DJs play party rock from the '50s through the '90s at the three-story Rock N Roll Beach Club, which also offers arcade games and pizza.

Danceless but still groovin' is the Pleasure Island Jazz Company, featuring live jazz and appetizing eats in a '30s-style club. Guests who prefer simply to drink, socialize, and laugh will feel at home in the eccentric Adventurers Club, where continuous entertainment involves character actors and quasi-inanimate objects. And every show is different at the Comedy Warehouse, which spins improvisational humor out of audience suggestions in five shows nightly.

Live acts perform throughout the night at the West End Stage, also the site for the nightly confetti-filled "New Year" street party at midnight. There's fine dining at Fulton's Crab House and Portobello Yacht Club, but Pleasure Island also offers more affordable fare, like hamburgers and Rice Krispies squares. Shops sell such merchandise as Disney wearables, movie memorabilia, and animation cels.
