Seminole-Lake Gliderport You think skydiving is as close as you can get to being able to fly? Falling through the air is a poor substitute for flying, especially when Seminole-Lake Gliderport lets you travel horizontally. Set amid the rolling hills, orange groves, and freshwater lakes of Clermont, the gliderport offers lessons for those interested in learning to fly without an engine. Florida's abundant year-round sunshine provides the thermal lift that helps sustain glider flights for as long as five hours. Gliders (or "sailplanes") are easier to maneuver than most aircraft, although they have fully conventional controls and fly safely at 45 mph. At Seminole-Lake Gliderport, the patron sits in the front seat of a two-seat high-performance glider with dual controls, while an FAA commercial pilot flies the plane from the rear seat. A wide, 3,000-foot-long grass strip serves as the runway along which the glider is towed, after which it can soar about 25 minutes. Location Hours of operation Cost Contact information
