Titanic ~ The Exhibition
Housed in the Mercado Mediterranean Village, a retail and entertainment complex, the world's first permanent Titanic exhibit opened in 1999. It retells the story of the "ship of dreams" through more than 200 artifacts recovered from the ship; interactive interpretations by storytellers in period costume; movie memorabilia, such as a costume worn by actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the Oscar-winning motion picture; and full-scale re-creations of some of the ship's rooms and areas, including the elaborate Grand Staircase. Visitors can tour the exhibit, view the ship's "construction," get fake tickets for the maiden voyage, and stand on a replica of the deck surrounded by the night sky. Movie memorabilia from other productions-such as A Night to Remember, starring Kenneth More; and The Search for Titanic, hosted by Orson Welles-also is part of the exhibition.
