Wet n' Wild

The world's first full-scale water park is arguably its best. Making its big splash in Orlando in 1977, Wet 'n Wild has become an international chain, thanks to a winning formula for water-based fun. With its excitement contained to a 25-acre slot on the busy International Drive, it is the only Central Florida water park where you can take the plunge even in winter (in heated water, of course).

Wet 'n Wild's most unique draw is the Black Hole, which flushes two-man rafts out of its 500 feet of twisted plumbing in 30 seconds. Here's another "twist"—the Black Hole is unnervingly pitch-black inside. Other tube rides include the six-story Fuji Flyer, a four-passenger toboggan run in raging water; the five-story Surge, shooting five-passenger tubes down nearly 600 feet of twists and turns; and the six-story Bubba Tub, which triple-dips a family-sized tube. On Bomb Bay, the bottom drops out from under you for a plunge down a 76-foot-high, nearly vertical slide.

But Wet 'n Wild is not all chutes and ladders. Other attractions include the mile-long Lazy River, perfect for relaxed drifting in a tube; the Wild One, a seasonal tow around a lake on oversized inner tubes; Hydra Fighter, where guests sit back-to-back in a swing and shoot water cannons that propel them; and Knee Ski, a seasonal cable tow of kneeboarders around a half-mile-long lake. Four-foot waves roll across Surf Lagoon, a 17,000-square-foot wave pool. For the kids there's the 3,200-square-foot Kids' Park (restricted to those under 48 inches tall), featuring miniature versions of the adult rides.

When you're ready for a dry spell, the park offers a video arcade, a shop with swimwear and other beach necessities, assorted beverages (some alcoholic), and cuisine ranging from barbecued ribs to vegetarian burgers. During special promotions, the Beach Club features DJs, beach games, prizes, and dancing.
