Frankford Hospital

4900 Frankford Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19124
215-831-2000

Frankford
Named after the neighborhood it would first serve, Frankford Hospital - Frankford opened its doors on the fourth of July, 1903 by a physician, Dr. Joseph Ball. Over the decades that followed, the Hospital introduced many new services to better meet the health needs of its growing communities.

As the Hospital’s service area grew and flourished, Frankford responded by opening a second site in 1977. Almost immediately, Frankford Hospital – Torresdale was operating at full capacity, meeting the healthcare needs of families from the Far Northeast and Lower Bucks County.

And, when many of the families Frankford Hospital had been serving for generations began relocating to Bucks County in the 1980’s and 1990’s, the Hospital again sought better ways to serve them. In March 1999, Frankford acquired Delaware Valley Medical Center and turned it into its third inpatient site – Frankford Hospital – Bucks County.

Today, Frankford’s focus on its founding philosophy is clearer than ever before. Now, our physicians, nurses and support personnel provide advanced care at three modern inpatient facilities and three outpatient sites – all of which are equipped with highly sophisticated technology. And, just like when the Hospital was founded nearly a century ago, each Frankford location still customizes its health services to meet the unique needs of its neighbors.

Frankford Hospital - Frankford, located in the lower Northeast section of Philadelphia at Frankford Avenue and Wakeling Street, is a 121-bed medical/surgical facility offering inpatient medicine, surgery, emergency services, a comprehensive physical rehabilitation unit and a 19-bed transitional care unit. A full array of outpatient services are also provided, including an outpatient diagnostic center, a short procedure unit, and an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program that counsels 500 patients each year.

Frankford's Health Center Clinic - with nine outpatient clinics that handle more than 11,500 cases for low-income residents each year - is also located at Frankford. The Hospital's geriatric partial hospitalization program and School of Nursing, which is the largest hospital-based nursing school in Pennsylvania, are located nearby.

The Hospital's surgical capabilities include eight operating rooms, four short procedure units, three endoscopy suites and two cystoscopy rooms. In fiscal year 1996, Frankford performed nearly 5,000 inpatient surgery cases and nearly 6,000 outpatient cases.
