The largest hospital in the Sharp HealthCare system, the 330-bed, acute-care Sharp Memorial Hospital is a designated Level II trauma center and a nationally renowned multi-organ transplant center. It offers inpatient and outpatient services, and maintains 163 beds for critical-care services.

Physicians affiliated with Sharp Memorial Hospital are credited with healthcare milestones in San Diego’s history, including its first open-heart surgery (1958), first heart transplant (1985), and first heart-kidney transplant (2002). The 122,500-square-foot Sharp Memorial Outpatient Pavilion opened for patient care in April 2003.
