The recently renovated 440-bed UCSD
Medical Center–Hillcrest is the region’s only academic medical
center, serving as the primary hospital for the University of California,
San Diego, School of Medicine. Located on the university’s campus, the
hospital features extensive diagnostic laboratories, a 20-bed surgical intensive-care
unit, a 13-bed coronary-care unit, and 11 operating rooms. It is the San Diego
County’s only Level I trauma center.
