Metreon

Designed as an all-day entertainment experience, Metreon is part mall, part movie theater, and part amusement park. Situated on an entire city block, the four-story facility houses 15 movie theatres with stadium-style seating, an IMAX theater, three interactive attractions, nine restaurants, and personal-technology stores with "hands-on shopping," where visitors are encouraged to touch and try out the merchandise.

Metreon invites you to "step into the biggest storybook ever built" in their Where the Wild Things Are interactive adventure. Based on the book by Maurice Sendak, it's a huge fantasy play space. Portal 1 is Metreon's futuristic-style game zone, with virtual bowling, an interactive dancing game, and the Extreme Sports Adventure Room. Restaurants at Metreon serve up everything from burgers and fries to sushi, from gourmet pizza to contemporary California cuisine.

Location
Metreon is located at 101 Fourth Street, on the corner of Fourth and Mission. There is no on-site parking, but the Yerba Buena Garage (with over 2,500 parking spaces) is just across the street. Metreon also is easily accessible via public transportation.

Hours of operation
Metreon is open every day from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Some attractions may have special hours. Call (415) 369-6000 to confirm that a specific attraction will be open during your visit, or check the Metreon Web site for a schedule.

Cost
Cost varies, depending on where you spend your time. Admission to the kid-oriented Where the Wild Things Are is $6. Admission to Portal 1 is free, but game "prices" range from 150 to 600 points. (You can buy a game card for as little as $1 for 100 points, or get 4800 points on a $30 card.) An adult movie ticket is $9.50; $9.75 for IMAX. Tickets for kids younger than 12 are $6.00; $6.75 for IMAX.

Contact information
