Seattle Neighborhoods Consistently ranked as one of America's top livable cities, Seattle is doing something-correction, many things-right. Its neighborhoods, like individual towns unto themselves, play no small role in the city's appeal. These diverse communities can offer such amenities as homes of classic styling, quiet residential streets, cultural events, shopping within walking distance, and tremendous views of the water or mountains. Compared with the rest of the country, this isn't a cheap place to live. But like Seattle's hilly terrain, the cost of living in its neighborhoods runs from high to low. Housing prices tend to drop in areas farther away from downtown Seattle and waterfronts, with the main exception of Eastside cities.
