Southern Arizona VA Health Care System 3601 South Sixth Avenue Formerly known as Veterans Hospital Number 51 and the Tucson VA Medical Center, the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) opened its doors in 1928 after years of treating patients in multiple buildings. Located on 116 acres, SAVAHCS now consists of a 302-bed teaching hospital in Tucson and five community-based outreach clinics (in Casa Grande, Green Valley, Safford, Sierra Vista, and Yuma). The healthcare system provides primary care and subspecialty healthcare services tailored to the needs of veterans. SAVAHCS scored 95 out of a possible 100 from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
