A Valentines Day Away

Spending Valentines Day away from your sweetie isn’t an ideal situation, however, there are ways can make the most of it. By following a few guidelines you can make sure this holiday away is as special as the days you spend together. The key is to try to be “virtually” together.

Start the morning off with an “I love you” phone call. Nothing is better than to wake up and share how much you mean to each other.

Buy a box of chocolates and send half to your valentine a few days in advance. You can share the box of chocolates mid-day, over the phone with one another on your special day. The same goes for a romantic dinner. You can chat with each other as you prepare the same meal from your own kitchen, eat dinner together and drink the same kind of wine.

Each of you can take a picture of yourself wearing what you plan to wear on Valentines Day and send it through the mail or email. Carry it with you in your pocket all day so you’ll know exactly how your sweetie looks. Another great idea that comes with our ever-evolving technology is to visit a place the two of you often go. Take a picture of yourself with your cell phone and send it to them with a text message attached that says, “I wish you could be here”.

If you’ve got some extra money burning a hole in your pocket you could call a local florist in the city your valentine will be in. Have the florist arrange to go to your honey’s office before he or she gets there and spread flowers all over the floor of their space. Place a note at their computer that says, “This Valentines Day I wanted to have a romantic picnic for lunch, but since you couldn’t make it… I brought the park to you”. Have a local deli deliver some of your valentine’s favorite foods.

The real secret to a special Valentines Day away is not contingent upon how big your wallet is; just use your imagination to creatively express your feelings for one another. It is easy to get caught up in marketing gimmicks that tell you the only ways to express your love are through expensive gifts. But when you have to spend some time apart it’s easy to see that the greatest gift of all is… to feel connected even though you’re far away.
